Springtime Fun in New Jersey

Head to a Festival

The festivities appear when the weather becomes warmer. On April 29, visit the Rock & Roll Steampunk Fair in Washington Borough for steampunk merchandise and live music. The Exit Zero Jazz Festival will feature music from jazz, soul, R&B, and other genres in Cape May from May 5–7. Check the Visit New Jersey Calendar for even more events to attend.

Observe the Birds

New Jersey is a prime location to see migratory and nesting birds because of the number of parks and nature preserves along its coastline, especially in the spring. Go bird watching in Cape May, where there are many different habitats to choose from, including wetlands, marshes, grasslands, and woodlands. You’ll see why this is a perfect location for the much-awaited World Series of Birding competition on May 13. All you need is a set of binoculars!

Catch a Ball Game

Bring the entire family to a baseball game! The Somerset Patriots, a New York Yankees affiliate, play at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater Township, and the BlueClaws, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, play at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood. Alternatively, go see the Trenton Thunder play at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. Check out the Sussex County Miners of the Frontier League at Skylands Stadium in Augusta or the New Jersey Jackals at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson if you’re traveling farther north. These enjoyable, cost-effective activities are perfect for a night out without going overboard.

Go Fly a Kite

Use the windy conditions of spring to your advantage and fly a colorful kite along the coast. Enjoy the immaculate family beach at Point Pleasant Beach before going for a stroll along the boardwalk to have some food. Fly your kite down the serene stretch of sand at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park while you take in views of the iconic Barnegat Lighthouse. Don’t miss the Wildwoods International Kite Festival from May 26–29. It’s the ideal location to admire kite-flying prowess and show off your own!
