Tailgating at MetLife Stadium

Attention sports fans! Football season is here, and the New York City Giants are gearing up for another great season at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Because there aren't any bars or restaurants around the Meadowlands Sports Complex, your pre-game fun will come from the tailgating variety. A few things to keep in mind are that grills are permitted, but open fires, deep fryers, or any oil-based cooking devices are not. Also, footballs are allowed and encouraged, so have a toss between cars before the game. Parking lots typically open five hours prior to kickoff.

At the Game

The MetLife Stadium was built with food in mind. To get the full experience, plan to visit one of the many concession stand options and really enjoy the atmosphere. The most popular options are the Sloppy Joes or the Buffalo Mac n' Cheese at the Food Network stand. Those local to the area know the name Lobel's for its meat, so plan a stop there to pick up a steak sandwich. A few other things to keep in mind at the game: There will be a bag check at the entrance, so leave your large bags behind. Umbrellas are not allowed, but you can take in your own food and water into the game. They'll just remove the cap to your bottles that are 20 oz. or smaller.

Getting There

Luckily for those not local, it's very easy to get to the MetLife Stadium. Drive your passenger van down the New Jersey Turnpike and follow the signs, but don't forget that you'll need a pre-paid parking permit because if you don't have one, you'll have to park off-site and take a shuttle to the game.
